The Message: Responsibility in Government

In the past year, we have all heard about many of the bills that have come before Congress that were thousands of pages in length. It is not possible that a bill of this size can efficiently accomplish what it was intended to accomplish.

Because of the large size, politicians are forced to have their staff read the bills and explain to them what is in the bills. Words cannot begin to describe how utterly irresponsible it is for anyone in Congress to vote for any bill of this size. For any act of Congress to be effective and to be clear in its purpose, each and every bill should be no more than a few dozen pages and should be written in simple, readable language understandable to any American.

Many in Congress believe that the average American is not intelligent enough to understand what they are doing for us. However, it seems that some in Congress are willing to push through legislation very quickly so that we, the people, do not even have the time to find out what they are doing.

Every elected official should be reminded that our government derives its powers only from the consent of the people.
